Free Jason Puracal in the Media

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Jason Puracal has lived in Nicaragua since 2002, when he came to serve with the Peace Corps. After leaving the Peace Corps, Jason remained in Nicaragua and married Nicaraguan Scarleth Flores Puracal, with whom he has a four-year-old son. Jason worked as a real estate broker and owner of a RE/MAX franchise in the beach community of San Juan del Sur - (home to CBS-TV’s “Survivor Nicaragua). Tranquility came to an end when, on the terror-filled day of November 11, 2010, the Nicaraguan national police arrested Jason without cause or warning. With no search warrant, hooded police with weapons searched and seized all the computers, phones, and files in Jason’s office. Jason’s mother, a doctor from Tacoma, was visiting Jason’s house in San Juan when the police forced their way in and held her and Jason’s four-year-old son captive while they searched the house and all of their personal belongings. Jason was one of ten people, none of whom he knew, taken to a maximum security prison outside Managua. Beaten in transit and denied food, water and medical care, he has not been allowed bail and remains imprisoned.
